Busy weekend

It has gotten frigidly cold in the Chicago area, and I'm too much of a sissy to run when it's below zero with windchill, so I've been taking to the treadmill over the past few days.  I did get in a lovely tempo run last Thursday on a local gravel trail that I thoroughly enjoyed.  It was overcast and windy, but I did a really good job of keeping myself at a tempo effort and my splits weren't too bad, around 9:45 or so.  Definitely not great, but I didn't expect I'd be doing 8:00 miles after missing so much running due to my injury.

My "trail" run.
I did a lot of yoga on Saturday--a morning vinyasa class and an afternoon arm balance workshop that totally rocked--but didn't get in much running.  Scott's brother and sister were in town, so there were lots of people over on both Saturday and Sunday and there were kids playing in the basement where my treadmill lives, so I didn't get in any running this weekend.  Yesterday I did an easy run and today I did some intervals, alternating running 3 minutes at what should be about 15 seconds faster than my current 5K pace with 3 minutes of jogging.  Just hoping to get faster.

What are your running goals right now?
What weather conditions make you head for the treadmill?

  1. Love trail running! I need to get back out to the trails. Some days during the week I like to get on the treadmill to zone out or just knock a quick run out and vary the type of terrain I run on, but I prefer mostly to run outside on the pavement in the cold! Cold weather running in Texas is my favorite - very mild compared to other parts of the country. I am looking fwd to daylight savings time when it's lighter outside in the mornings!

  2. Sounds like you are well on the road to recovery! Especially with already starting to mix speedwork back in!

Running goals for me... get my endurance back. I did a run every day challenge in December, but ran really short distances. I want my "go on forever" legs back! Ugh. The treadmill. Maybe ice? Maybe? I really avoid the thing ;)

  3. I'm not a big treadmill runner either but I've been running on it this week because it is just too cold! I can't wait until we start having some more light and it gets a little bit warmer!

Hang in there, I'm sure your running will come back faster than you think!

  4. I am so lucky I left the Midwest and moved South it is never to cold to run outside now; however, pouring rain does still make me head for the dreadmill.
